Old Hanseatic Cities and the Baltic Sea

The Hanseatic League was a 14th to 17th century confederation of merchant guilds and their market towns. Founded in the end of the 12th century by a small group of German towns on the Baltic Sea, the league went on to include some two hundred towns and dominate maritime trade in northern Europe for around four hundred years. On the tour you visit some of the most important hanseatic cities and learn their history by Sightseeing.

Day 1: Hanseatic league journey – Arrival to Mecklenburg-West Pomerania

Arrival and check-in at the hotel. Here you will stay for the next five nights. You will have some free time to explore the town on your own.

Day 2: Güstrow and Schwerin

Do you know the paradise of the north? You get to know it at your drive to the Ernst Barlach city Güstrow. Take part in a walking tour through recently renovated old town and enjoy the charming atmosphere of the Barlach city of Güstrow. Continue on to Schwerin. A guided sightseeing tour on your Hanseatic league journey reveals the most interesting facts about the city and the castle.

Day 3: The Baltic Sea’s treasures

The day starts with a trip to Kühlungsborn. The impressive plenitude of historical buildings and the seaside-resort architecture take you on a time-travel journey through the centuries. Have a walk along the seaside promenade and enjoy the unique flair of the Baltic Sea resort. Continue to Heiligendamm – the first German seaside resort and summer residence of the dukes of Mecklenburg. The village welcomes its guests with its beauty, wideness, waves and fresh air. Our next stop is Bad Doberan. This is a place, where a gem of Northern Germany’s brick Gothic architecture was built. The Doberan Minster features its gold-plated high altar. We continue our trip to the famous German cities Rostock and Warnemünde. Explore more of these cities on a sightseeing tour.

Day 4: UNESCO heritage Stralsund and the Isle of Rügen

In the morning begins you trip to the old Hansa City Stralsund. The city belongs to the world cultural heritage of UNESCO. Every brick and every canal tells the exciting history of the beautiful “hanseat”, which traces lead back to 1234.
After visiting Stralsund we hit our way to the Isle of Rügen. On the way to Binz we visit such charming places as Puttbus and Lauterbach. Bimz is belived to be the most popular place on the island. Binz is located at one of the most beautiful bays in that region and is the right place for a romantic getaway, a family break or just craving to escape the hectic pace of everyday life. Enjoy your walk on the 370 meter Binzer pier and the fantastic sea panorama.. You are welcome to treat yourself with the incredible local fresh sea-food!

Day 5: Lake District of Mecklenburg

Today, take a close-up look at fascinating scenery of the Mecklenburg Lake District.  This region is also called “The Land of 1000 Lakes”. There are several hundred lakes in the Mecklenburg Lake District and nearly all of them offer a variety of leisure / water activities. It time to visit the town of Waren, which is the largest town at the tourist centre with numerous restaurants, accommodation and good shopping opportunities.
Here it is possible to have a boat trip on the largest lake in Germany, the Müritz.

Day 6: Journey home

Today it’s time to say good-bye to the Hanseatic league journey or book the further travel programme.
