Study Tour Luther “In the footsteps of Martin Luther”
Day 1: Eisenach
Your first stopof the study tour Luther is Eisenach. Visit Luther’s House in Eisenach including the Luther memorial, where predominantly exhibits dating back to Luther’s life are on display. Continue to Wartburg castle (UNESCO World Heritage site since 1999) with Luther’s study. Wartburg castle is one of the best preserved medieval castles and served Luther as a shelter. It was here he translated the New Testament. You will then travel on to Erfurt. In the evening a guided walk through the old town of Erfurt with St Mary’s Cathedral awaits you. Luther was ordained as a priest in the choir of the cathedral.
Day 2: Erfurt
After breakfast a guided tour in Erfurt takes you to the Augustinian monastery, where Luther lived as a monk. Then you set off for Lutherstadt Eisleben. On a tour around the town you will visit the house, where Luther was born and also passed away. The bus will bring you to the next stop of the study tour Luther, Leipzig.
Day 3: Leipzig
In the morning a tour of Leipzig is on the programme including St Thomas’s Church, where Luther preached and introduced the Reformation. The next stop is Torgau. The guide will take you on a sight seeing tour. Among other sights you will see “St Mary’s”, where Luther’s wife, Katharina von Bora, is buried. Travel on to Wittenberg. During your excursion in the town you will visit the Schlosskirche, where Luther posted his famous 95 Theses on the door in 1517. Furthermore, you have a chance to see Luther’s House – the place where Luther lived and worked after moving to Wittenberg. The former monastery is now the world’s largest museum of the history of the Reformation.
Day 4: Departure
After breakfast it is time to set off on your journey home or to another destination.
